Land 4, The Workshop
In Land 4 you are in a railway workshop. This is the atmosphere that the museum building radiates. Look at the roof for instance, really industrial. This is where you can enjoy the most beautiful trains from Dutch railway history completely undisturbed. You will also find EduTRAINers to talk to here. They will relate anecdotes and tell you the secrets behind the rolling stock on display. Stay with them because they will open up a special train for you. The simulator has its place in this land too of course. Climb aboard the Longmoor, a wartime locomotive, and find out what it’s like to be the engine driver on such a big locomotive. Or take a look in an old mail car and see what it used to be like sorting the mail on a moving train. In the Discovery Car you can take a chance on a challenging shunting game.
Recent visitors to Land 4 are sure to have noticed the Demo mobile, a mega-vehicle driven by the EduTRAINers. The Demo mobile lets you see how a steam engine works in a simple fashion. The pressure is raised to an extraordinarily high level with the aid of a grill plate, a couple of whistling kettles and a pressure cooker. This pressure is then used to drive a wheel, inflate a balloon and start up some old-fashioned steam engines. The Demo mobile is present at the museum every day to show you how even the tiniest steam locomotives get moving!
