Sleeper truck HSM 29045 GMW

Its name ‘Dwarsligger’ has nothing to do with any difficulty in operating it. HSM mainly uses this open goods wagon to transport materials for the construction and maintenance of the railways. Among other things, they transport… railway sleepers. For this purpose, they have a wider wagon body. The sleeper wagon is also very suitable for transporting loose materials, such as sand. The open wagons are easy to load and unload by folding down the sides.

A striking feature of this wagon is the brakeman’s cab. Each wagon has a separate brakeman who brings the wagon to a halt on the driver’s signal. Following the introduction of the Westinghouse continuous brake, the brakeman’s cabs were no longer required. Each carriage then had a continuous brake linked to the locomotive. This allowed the driver to bring the entire train to a halt.
