Het Spoorwegmuseum / Railway Museum, located at Maliebaan 16 3581 XW Utrecht, is responsible for the processing of personal data as shown in this privacy statement.

Het Spoorwegmuseum handles the privacy and privacy-sensitive data of our (online) visitors with care. The information that we ask of you is not requested at random: we need this information to be able to help you better. The personal data you give us through our website and online channels will be treated confidentially and according to the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation (AVG).

In this privacy statement we inform you about how we process personal data, for which purposes we need personal data, how you can exercise your privacy rights and we inform you how we handle your data.

Where do we collect what data?

Ticketshop / Online tickets
If you purchase tickets and/or other products from the Spoorwegmuseum online, we ask for your first and last name, e-mail address, postal code and house number. We need this information to send you the ticket(s) for your purchases. When you visit the Railway Museum, we scan your ticket and the date of your visit is recorded. We collect this data for statistical purposes. Your personal data is deleted after a maximum of 26 months after purchase. Ticket sales are handled by the Spoorwegmuseum in cooperation with IT4web.

Would you rather not share your personal data? Through our box office, you can also purchase tickets without sharing personal data.


Digital Newsletter & Email

If you subscribe to our digital newsletter, we will ask you for your name and email address. This is necessary to inform you by email of news, promotions and offers from the Spoorwegmuseum. We process your data in a CRM platform provided by Smart Connections. All our newsletters contain a link that allows you to unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time. This link also allows you to view and modify the data we have on you. After unsubscribing you will no longer receive newsletters from us. Your data will also be removed from the CRM platform after a maximum of one year. You will not receive a monthly newsletter unless you have explicitly subscribed to it.

Besides the newsletter we send service emails to ask you about your experience and to remind you of a new event you have previously attended. A link in the email allows you to unsubscribe from all emails at any time.


Rail Rookies

When you join our kids club Rail Rookies we ask for your name, e-mail address, birthday and address information. With these details we can send the Rail Rookies by mail the quarterly magazine and a birthday card. We also send a monthly digital newsletter with the latest news. When you quit as a member, your data will be deleted and/or anonymized after one month. You will then no longer receive mailings or physical mail.


Touchpoints in the museum – Design a train & Send a postcard

Do you take a photo at ‘Send a postcard’ or ‘Design a train’ in the museum? Then we ask for your name and e-mail address so we can send you the photo. The photo itself is stored at most. Your data will be used for visitor analysis and service emails. For example, you will receive an aftermail after your visit to the museum in which you can share your experiences and you will receive a service email around previously visited events. You can unsubscribe from all service emails from the museum at any time using the link in the newsletter.


Contests & actions

Are you participating in one of our contests or the Shunting Puzzle? Then we ask for your name, e-mail address and the answer to the question. With this information we can reach you when you are the lucky winner of one of the prizes. Your data is kept for visitor analysis purposes.


Social media

If you use our social media account and ask questions or post comments on them, we collect this for analytical purposes. Read the privacy statements of Meta (Facebook and Instagram), Google (Youtube), LinkedIn and X to see what they do with your personal data.


Questions and complaints

If you ask us a question or make a complaint, or if you contact the Railway Museum by phone, email, social media or mail, we may ask you to share your contact information to handle your question or complaint. In this case, these personal data will be used by us only for this purpose and will be accessible only to persons within Spoorwegmuseum who are concerned with handling your question or complaint.


Application

When you respond to a job opening at the Railway Museum, we collect your name, e-mail address, all the personal data you provide in your CV, cover letter and other files sent along with your application. These data will be used exclusively for the application process. After the recruitment and selection period has ended, your data will be kept for a maximum of four weeks, unless you give the Railway Museum permission to keep your data for a maximum of one year. Thereafter, this data will be permanently deleted.

Spoorwegmuseum uses Google Analytics. We use this to analyze how visitors use our website. Data of minors

However, we cannot verify whether a visitor is older than 16. We encourage parents to be involved in the online activities of their children in order to prevent the collection of information about children without parental permission.
