There’s more than enough to do, see and learn at the Railway Museum. We offer well-known attractions such as the Trial by Fire, Steel Monsters and the Great Discovery – but also hold fun events such as the ‘Day out with Thomas’ and ‘Winter Station’. We can be reached by bus, train, bicycle or car!
By bus:
Take bus 4, 8, 28, 50, 55, 73, or 77 from Utrecht Central station and get out at the Stadsschouwburg stop. From there, the Railway Museum is just a quick walk away.
By car:
Enter: ‘Johan van Oldenbarneveltlaan 1, Utrecht’
Note: Visitors coming from the direction of Amsterdam on the A2 motorway should not follow signs for Centrum/Jaarbeurs but instead take the route past Galgenwaard Stadium.
By train:
The museum can be reached by rail shuttle. This train departs from Platform 2 at Utrecht CS and stops at our own station, Utrecht Maliebaan. Plan your journey using the travel planner!

There are more than enough fun things for children to do here! Kids can play on the playground, visit one of the many attractions, learn all about train engineering in the Techlab, take a ride on the Jumbo Express and – of course – enjoy a fun day out with Thomas. They can also join our kid’s club: Rail Rookies

By train:
Take the rail shuttle and arrive at the museum in style! The rail shuttle runs from Utrecht CS to our own station, Utrecht Maliebaan. Passengers exit the train in the middle of the museum. Travelling by train requires a valid NS ticket or chip card. You can pay for the rail shuttle using your OV Chipkaart. It is possible to check in and out at the Railway Museum.
By bus:
Take bus 4, 8, 28, 50, 55, 73, or 77 from Utrecht Central station and get out at the Stadsschouwburg stop. From there, the Railway Museum is just a quick walk away.
You can park in one of the 200 parking spaces on the museum grounds.
Other important things to keep in mind:
A parking pass for the Railway Museum car park costs €9.50 and is valid for one visit to the museum.
The Railway Museum car park is accessible only to visitors of the museum.
On busy days (such as during events), the car park tends to fill up quickly. It is possible to park in the surrounding area; go here to view parking facilities in Utrecht. More information – including rates for parking on the street, in a garage or at a P+R – is available here.
The museum car park has four parking spaces for visitors with a disability (€9.50 per day).
The entrance to the Railway Museum is located inside the Municipality of Utrecht’s low-emissions zone. Diesel-fuelled vehicles made prior to 2001 are prohibited from entering this zone. More information is available here.
Yes; it’s possible to purchase a museum card at the Railway Museum!
These are the prices:
- Children aged 12 years and under: €32.45
- Youth card (ages 13 through 18): €32.45
- Adults aged 19 years and older: €64.90
Tickets can be presented either on paper or in digital form.
The ticket desk can be found in the Maliebaan station; when you enter the station from the car park, the desk will be to your right. Have you purchased online tickets? That’s great, because it means you can walk straight to the other end of the platform and present your tickets at the checkpoint for scanning.
Everyone is welcome at the Railway Museum. Visitors under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult (18 years or older) when they come to the museum.

The only dogs welcome in the museum are service dogs.
The Railway Museum is accessible to visitors who use a wheelchair, with the exception of the trains and the Steel Monsters attraction.
Photography and/or the making of video or film recordings that involve the use of lighting, flash equipment and/or tripods is forbidden, except in cases where prior written permission has been obtained from the management of the Railway Museum. It is likewise prohibited to reproduce or make these photo or video recordings public in any way, via any medium, without the permission of management.
