De Arend - The Eagle
De Arend – The Eagle – is a replica of the very first steam locomotive in the Netherlands. It is the only steam locomotive of the museum that still runs! We do that one weekend a month. What’s special is that the locomotive has a different track width than we are used to now. That is why there is still a small piece of broad gauge on the museum grounds. Unique in the Netherlands.
Each year, from spring through to autumn, the very first steam locomotive in the Netherlands, de Arend, is fired up! This jewel of the museum’s collection is normally on display in the permanent exhibition, but on the dates below, the doors are thrown open and de Arend chugs its way outside.
Due to technical issues, De Arend will not be running on 16 and 17 May.
