Specifications

A closed goods wagon is a rail vehicle without its own propulsion system. There are standard and special closed wagons. The standard wagon, which is loaded from the side, is designed for the transport of general cargo. Special wagons are often fitted with sliding walls or roofs to suit the customer’s specific loading and unloading requirements. The design of the goods wagon features many standard components, making it easy to repair any damage even in other countries. As a result, they operate throughout Europe. On some wagons, the wooden panelling on the walls has been replaced with steel plate and the sliding doors reinforced at the bottom to minimise damage caused by forklift trucks and pallets.

The Railway Museum owns a number of closed goods wagons built between 1949 and 1961 at Werkspoor in Utrecht. Types Gs (closed wagon), Gbs (closed large-volume wagon) and S-CHR (vegetable wagon).
