Specifications

Due to the electrification of the railways across almost the whole of the Netherlands, NS has phased out all its diesel trains in recent years. The Railway Museum seized the opportunity to add a Diesel Rolling Stock (DM) ’90 to its collection.

The DM ’90 is nicknamed ‘de Buffel’, because the front of the train set is robust and somewhat reminiscent of the shape of a buffalo’s head. The Buffels ran on railway lines in the Netherlands that lacked overhead lines; these were mostly regional lines outside the Randstad. These lines are now operated by railway companies other than NS. You may well be familiar with them: the trains of Syntus, Arriva and Connexxion. As NS no longer requires diesel trains, they are saying goodbye to the Buffel.
