Motor post carriages are specially built for the transport of post. A motor post carriage is self-propelled. They also resemble Plan V trainsets in both technical design and appearance. The ‘Motorposten’ have a floor area of 41 m², a load capacity of 15 tonnes and can haul 200 tonnes. On both sides of the carriages are three large sliding doors for loading and unloading the roll containers containing mailbags. The train also has a small sorting area. The rolling stock was initially brown, later featuring a yellow front. In the 1980s, all mail carriages were repainted in yellow and red.
A large proportion of the mail transport takes place at night. From 1990 onwards, there is a great deal of track maintenance, particularly at night, which severely disrupts mail transport. In 1997, PTT therefore decides to carry out all mail transport by road. This renders the mail carriages redundant. PTT donates one motorised mail carriage to the Railway Museum.
