NS D 7521 Steel luggage wagon

Object number 16538

Specifications

These carriages were specially built for the transport of checked-in luggage on international train services. Passengers do not need to carry their suitcases themselves; these are transported in the luggage coach. It is even possible to have luggage collected and delivered, either to your home or to your hotel. In the Netherlands, this service was available right up until the 1960s.

The coach has three luggage compartments that can be sealed separately by customs. This means that customs only need to process the goods at the final destination. In its final years, this NS D 7521 was used as a workshop storage coach. The STIBANS (Foundation for the Preservation of Dutch Railway Rolling Stock Destined for Scrap) acquired it in 1985 and donated the coach to the Railway Museum 10 years later.
