Specifications

Between 1880 and 1956, the Nederlandsche Tramweg Maatschappij (NTM) operated the tram lines in Friesland. Although the name might suggest otherwise, this tram company operated exclusively in Friesland and neighbouring parts of Groningen, Drenthe and Overijssel. The tram lines were used for both passenger and freight transport. In the early days, the NTM used horse-drawn trams, but in 1913 the steam tram also made its debut. The NTM grew to become one of the largest steam tram companies in the Netherlands.

The Railway Museum has two small goods wagons from the horse-drawn tram era, including a single-axle trailer (Dk2) designed to be attached to the rear of the horse-drawn tram. This small wagon was used for transporting light goods such as luggage. From the 1930s onwards, the tram system began to decline, with many lines being closed. What remained of the former NTM tram lines in 1956 was transferred to the NS, which closed the last tram line in 1985.
