Specifications

Freight wagons come in various shapes and sizes. Some are designed to carry bulk goods, such as ore and coal. Others transport general cargo, such as foodstuffs and post. Some closed wagons have a refrigeration system for transporting perishable goods. These refrigerated wagons have the letter ‘I’ in their name; they feature thermal insulation, air cooling, a slatted floor and ice boxes.

This refrigerated wagon has the letters Ibces after the type number. This means it was used for meat transport. The ‘b’ stands for two axles with a floor area of 22 m² or more, the ‘c’ indicates the presence of meat hooks, ‘e’ stands for electric air circulation and, finally, the ‘s’ means that the wagon can travel at 100 km/h.

The refrigerated wagon was built in Germany in 1966 at the Talbot factory in Aachen. After its active service, the wagon was still used for training purposes. In 2001, the refrigerated wagon was loaned to the STAR Museum Railway in Stadskanaal.
