Specifications

This freight train luggage wagon (Dg) enjoyed its heyday in the 1950s. A Dg has a crew compartment and a luggage compartment. The crew compartment has a side extension with windows. Inside are a leather three-seater bench, a table and a stove. The luggage compartment has a toilet, a coal kit and a cupboard containing propane gas cylinders for the lighting. During the journey, the conductor carries out administrative work and keeps an eye on both sides of the train using angled mirrors.

Often, several conductors are on duty on the same train, and they do not always get on well. The story even goes that, just before the end of their shift, they sometimes urinate in the stove, so that the next conductor has to sit in a stinking carriage! Due to the decline in coal transport and budget cuts, many DGs disappeared from the railways in the 1960s or were given a different role, for example as service vehicles.
