Playground
When parents want to take a breather, the fun begins for the little ones. In the playground, they can play to their heart’s content: running along the obstacle course, jumping on the trampolines or digging in the sandpit with big diggers. You reach the playground via a lovely climbing bridge. Can’t manage to climb up here? Then just take the stairs. You can still go down the slide!
Don’t forget to wave to your parents every now and then!
'Railway Garden'
The right-hand section of the site, the Spoortuin, is brand new. There are plenty of plants and trees, and picnic benches are dotted around the grounds. All around you can see items from the railway collection, such as railway sleepers, train doors and wheels. A railway bogie has been turned into a lovely picnic bench. There are also some unusual sculptures on display that used to stand on the roof of Utrecht Central Station and at the stations in Nijmegen and Eindhoven. The former Kruis Blauwkapel, a unique but decommissioned railway crossing, can be admired right next to the Vuurproef. On hot days, children can cool off at the fountains.
Terrace
Whilst the children play, you can relax on the outdoor terrace. Shade sails are put up here to provide protection from the sun on hot days. You have a good view of the restored train front ends; one is the front of a Sprinter, the other is from the Mat’ 64.
The Spoortuin has been made possible thanks to the support of our partner NH1816
