Small meets big. For three days, the best model railway builders in Europe exhibit their latest model railway layouts at On traXS. Be amazed by the most beautiful model railways, right among the full-size trains of the Railway Museum.

For your visit to On traXS, you need a valid admission ticket and a reservation for the Railway Museum, even if you visit the museum with a VriendenLoterij VIP card or a Museumkaart. Reservations are free and can be made in our online ticketshop.

A combined layout of standard gauge and narrow gauge. In the foreground on the right is a small, rather dilapidated depot for the French Billards. Along the station, a railbus stops, which, after departing, crosses the village through the streets and past the houses. In the background, a French diesel unit stops at the station platform and, after a short stop, continues on its way.

Diorama of the Centennial Monorail that operated in 1876 in Philadelphia at the World’s Fair held for the 100th anniversary of the United States of America. It was intended as a solution for increasingly crowded cities. This first steam-powered monorail was designed by General Le-Roy Stone. The carriage was a double-decker with a decorative Victorian design and was powered by a locomotive with a rotary steam engine.

On the left side there is a bridge over a valley, and the narrow-gauge train winds its way through the landscape. In the center is a small station that belongs to the village located on the right side. From the station, the train runs through the village’s main street. The front of the layout is set at a 45-degree angle, creating a visual separation between the valley with the bridge and the village.

The model railway is built at a scale of 1:87 and is a replica of a real station in southern Poland. The model represents the period around the turn of the 1980s to the 1990s. The station buildings and railway infrastructure elements have been faithfully reproduced. The layout is complemented by smoothly running Polish rolling stock and models of cars that were popular in Poland at that time.

The layout represents the station area of the town of Lamastre in the Vivarais, located in the northern part of the Ardèche region in France. Today, the well-known red and yellow railbuses, typical of French secondary lines in the 1960’s, still operate here mainly for tourists. These iconic railcars are maintained in service by volunteers. The layout captures the local atmosphere and historic buildings. All trains and structures are scratch-built, with 3D printing playing an important role. The backdrop is composed of on-site photographs printed on display board. The operation (including the traverser tables) is automated using a computer program. The layout is equipped with a skirt and fascia board featuring the layout’s name and integrated lighting.

The layout is set in the autumn of 1941 and depicts a fictional branch line of the Rio Grande Southern in the southwest of Colorado. The narrow-gauge line winds through the mountains, past conifer trees and aspens, and crosses streams and rivers via wooden bridges. The layout is built in HOn3 scale and consists of two modules, constructed in a shadowbox style with a fully black, smooth fascia for greater immersion in the landscape. A hidden return loop allows the train to run continuously during exhibitions, leaving more room for conversations with visitors. The layout and return loop measure 4.50 by 1.50 meters.

The diorama depicts a lively scene on Sint Jansstraat in Uden in the year 1910. What makes this layout special are the scratch-built tram and railway cars, as well as the many moving figures and objects that have been designed and built with great care and technical creativity. Each house has been reconstructed based on historical photographs, and all moving elements are unique and entirely custom-designed.
