The most expensive model

Märklin, a well-known German manufacturer, rarely released models of Dutch railway stock. This three-unit passenger train made by Märklin in 1932 depicts the Mat ’24, which was named for the year in which these electric trains were built for the Dutch Railway (NS). These trains were also known as Blokkendoos, which means ‘box of blocks’, thanks to their squared-off appearance. This model train was sold for the hefty price of 36 guilders (around 16 euros) in the 1930s: quite a sum in those days.
