Oldest wooden toy train

The Railway Museum is home to the oldest wooden toy train in all of Europe! This train, an impressive four metres in length, came into the museum’s possession in 1928 as a donation from the 100-year-old woman who owned it. The toy had been made especially for her children in a railway workshop sometime around 1850. This was no coincidence, as the woman in question was none other than Frederika Wilhelmina Conrad. Mrs Conrad happened to be the daughter of the first Superintendent engineer of the Hollandsche IJzeren Spoorwegmaatschappij, the predecessor of today’s NS.
