SS731

The greenest model

This verdant model of steam locomotive SS 731 (from the Staatsspoorwegen) was made by Artitec. This Dutch manufacturer began creating products for the model railway industry in the late 1950s. Before the company began making model trains, it supplied scale models to museums, shipyards and architects. Artitec’s model trains are moulded from plastic under vacuum conditions using what is known as the vacuum forming technique. As a result, its models are often more finely detailed and therefore popular with collectors.
