Vulcantrein (9702)

Vulcan train, circa 1845

Hand-painted tin toy train with wheels that can actually turn. It is comprised of the steam locomotive ‘Vulcan’; first, second and third-class carriages; a baggage car; and a cattle truck. The passengers are tiny, flattened tin figures that have been soldered to the train. Because tin is quite a soft material, only a very small number of this type of early toy train have survived. That makes this an extremely rare object!
