Loaded Trains

In ‘Loaded Trains’, the museum remembers the forced transport of Jews, Roma and Sinti to extermination camps during World War II. This ongoing exhibition has been permanently installed in and around a baggage car found in Romania.

Lost without a trace and then recovered

Baggage car NS 4088 was built in 1914 but was missing for nearly 60 years. The car ended up in Eastern Europe during World War II, and there it remained. In 2002, the baggage car was found at a remote train yard near Bucharest, Romania and brought back to the Netherlands. This baggage car was selected to house the permanent exhibition ‘Loaded Trains’ specifically because its wartime history is unknown.
